To Our Valued Customers,

Patient safety has always been our number one priority at BridgeHealth. The health and wellbeing of our members and their loved ones are at the center of everything we do. As concerns about the virus that causes COVID-19 escalate, we wanted to share how we will continue to manage patient safety. Our quality team, led by our chief medical officer, Terry Fouts, MD, and our director of quality and process improvement, Donna Johnson, BSN, MHS, LSSBB, is monitoring the situation daily. According to the most recent information available from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the immediate risk of being exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19 is thought to be low for most people in the U.S. BridgeHealth is actively working with members who may be at increased risk (over the age of 65 and/or with co-morbidities) to determine the appropriate course of action.

We want our clients to feel confident in the safety of their members who obtain their planned surgeries through a BridgeHealth center of excellence (COE).

Traveling Patients:

BridgeHealth’s focus on quality means we regularly assess and monitor members prepping for a planned surgery outside their home area. Every member is assessed for travel, not only by our BridgeHealth safety standards, but by the surgeons to whom we refer them. Just prior to surgery, we call each member – assessing their readiness for surgery, including how they’re feeling and if they’ve had any recent health issues that may put them at risk. For patients who appear at risk for travel, BridgeHealth will work with the provider and the member to reschedule their surgery. Members undergoing surgery use the travel app Travefy, which includes health precautions to consider while traveling. Travefy has been updated to provide additional precautionary measures members can take.

The BridgeHealth travel team is experienced in handling last minute travel changes for members en route to or from a surgery. As a result, our team is well prepared to handle any travel issues that may arise from the spread of COVID-19. Additionally, we’re encouraging those members who may have concerns about their travel to discuss it with their provider or COE surgeon.

Please be assured that we will continue to monitor the CDC site as well as the state health department sites for updates regarding COVID-19, including any travel recommendations or restrictions that may impact our members.
